Electro Static Discharge (ESD) is a major threat to the Electronic industry. It damages the components instantaneously or causes degraded performance during the components life period. Manufacturers and Equipment users typically claim that ESD account for 60-80% of operational failure in the field. Large percentage of the failure in MOS integrated circuits is attributed only to ESD. To eliminate the threat posed by ESD, the sources of ESD should be understood first; secondly a systematic approach has to be adopted to control ESD.
